[Beware of Impersonators] ADCC Officers will Never Send Warrant Card Photos 


Our Advice

There are scammers who have sent fake warrant card photos to members of the public multiple times via instant messaging applications in attempts to impersonate officers from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) and gain public trust. The ADCC contacts the public via phone or WhatsApp solely to issue scam alerts. Please note “three nevers” of the ADCC:

1.⁠ ⁠The ADCC will never send warrant card photos to members of the public

2.⁠ ⁠The ADCC will never assist the public in filing complaints   

3.⁠ ⁠The ADCC will never instruct the public to make transfers or provide their online banking passwords

ADCC police officers will only request victims to meet at police stations.

 

The police warrant card has the following features:

 

In the front, the card is printed with (in Chinese and English):

“Hong Kong Police”, a colour Force crest; the name, rank, UI and photo of the warrant card holder, and laser wording of “HONG KONG POLICE” and “香港警察”

 

  • In the back, the card is printed with a statement: “The person whose photograph and particulars appear on the reverse is a duly appointed member of the Hong Kong Police”

  • When police officers produce their warrant cards, they are only required to show them to the requesting individuals. The warrant card must not be handed over to any member of the public for inspection. If anyone claiming to be an ADCC police officer contacts you and you doubt their identity, please call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” for enquiries.

  • Even if strangers who send you messages are able to tell your personal information, it does not necessarily mean that they are genuine law enforcement officers. Scammers can obtain the personal information of the public by unlawful means.
