Someone Impersonates ADCC Police Officer!
2025-03-24

Defrauding Tricks

The Police recently uncovered a scam case in which a scammer impersonated a police officer from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC). Please be aware that police officers of the ADCC will never “assist victims in filing complaints” or “instruct victims to make transfers”. If you encounter such situations, please call 18222 immediately for verification.

In the scam, the scammer, claiming to be a police officer of the ADCC, sent messages to a victim via WhatsApp. They claimed that the victim was involved in a disputed case and suggested contacting them for any questions the victim might have.

Please note in particular that the scammer posed as a police officer to gain the victim’s trust.

Our Advice

  • The aim of phone calls made by of ADCC police officers is to issue “scam alerts”, i.e., to remind potential scam victims;

  • ADCC police officers will never “assist victims in filing complaints”, “instruct victims to make transfers” or “ask victims for their online banking passwords”;

  • ADCC police officers will only request victims to meet at police stations;

  • Even if strangers who send you messages are able to tell your personal information, it does not necessarily mean that they are genuine law enforcement officers. Scammers can obtain the personal information of the public by unlawful means;

  • If anyone claiming to be an ADCC police officer contacts you and you doubt their identity, please call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” for enquiries.
