Beware of Upgraded Fake eTraffic Ticket SMS Scams
Remember “With #, No Link” to Identify Genuine from Fake
2026-05-28
The Anti-Deception Coordination Centre reminds the public that an “upgraded version” of fake eTraffic Penalty (eTraffic Tickets) SMS messages has recently emerged. Scammers mimic the format of official messages by including details such as “notice number”, “date” and “penalty amount”, and falsify the sender IDs to lure recipients into clicking hyperlinks. The Police have received multiple related enquiries recently. Members of the public are urged to stay vigilant and avoid falling prey to phishing scams.
Three tips to verify authenticity:
Genuine eTraffic Ticket SMS messages must include a “#” in the sender ID, with the full name shown as “#HKPF-eTT”;
Genuine messages do not contain any hyperlinks;
Official websites always use a domain ending with “.gov.hk”, such as https://www.etrafficticket.gov.hk
Anti-Scam Advice:
Do not click on hyperlinks, provide personal information, or return calls when receiving suspicious messages.
Verify traffic tickets through the official website or by using the “Scameter+”.
