Defrauding Tricks
The termination of the partnership between SF Express Hong Kong (SFHK) and Pinduoduo has raised public concern. Scammers have taken advantage of this to launch phishing SMS attacks, using the pretext of “you are entitled to compensation due to lost deliveries” to ask members of the public for their banking information. The trick is as follows:
1. Phishing SMSs – Scammers first send SMSs to members of the public, claiming that no one answered the door when parcels were delivered and that phone calls went unanswered, and urging recipients to call back.
2. Claims specialists – When the victims call back, the scammers claim that the company will compensate for the lost deliveries, then redirect the calls to so-called “claims specialists” and “UnionPay staff” for follow-ups.
3. Stealing information – The scammers, posing as staff members, instruct the victims to visit a fraudulent UnionPay website, disclose their bank account balance and increase their online banking transfer limit to the maximum for non-registered payees.
4. Phishing for passwords – The scammers lure the victims to disclose their online banking usernames, passwords, and one-time passwords.
5. Alarmist calls – Some who ignore the scammers later receive multiple threatening phone calls and messages.
Pick-up Notifications to be Sent via “SFHK APP”
Starting from 14 April 2025, all parcel self-pickup notifications will be sent via “SFHK APP”, the official mobile application of SFHK.
Customers can check the latest status of their parcels, including waybill numbers, delivery routes, sender and recipient details, and payment information, at any time on “SFHK APP”.
SFHK appeals to its customers to download and register the mobile application as soon as possible, and to enable push notifications in order to receive parcel arrival notifications, as well as to access other value-added services.
Be Cautious of Fraudulent Messages Always Verify Through Official Platforms
SFHK reiterated that it would never ask customers to make payments by clicking on hyperlinks and reminded the public to remain vigilant when conducting online transactions.
