Over 20 Scam Cases Involving Wing On Discounted Flight Tickets Reported in a Week

Defrauding Tricks

Even celebrities have fallen prey to scams! Scammers impersonated staff of Wing On Travel and posted advertisements on social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, claiming to offer buy-one-get-one-free deals on round-trip business class tickets to destinations including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the UK, the USA, Europe and Australia. Victims were lured to click on the links and make enquiries directly via WhatsApp, where they were deceived into transferring money to designated bank accounts. The Police have received over 20 reports on such cases within a week, with the largest loss amounting to $100,000, and the total losses exceeding $420,000.

 

Wing On Travel has clarified on its official website that it will never ask customers to transfer money to designated accounts and reminded them to carefully identify its official channels.

  • Wing On Travel will never ask customers to transfer money to designated accounts;

  • You are advised to check if promotional advertisements are posted on Wing On Travel’s Facebook page with a blue tick verification badge;

  • You may seek confirmation via Wing On Travel’s official WhatsApp hotline (6827 8191) or in person at its branches;

  • The Registered SMS Sender ID of Wing On Travel is “#WingOnTrav”;

  • You may enter suspicious web addresses on CyberDefender or “Scameter+” application for security check in addition to seeking verification from relevant organisations;
