Alert for Northbound Travellers! Civil Affairs Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality Will Not Call You
2025-03-13

Defrauding Tricks

Following the earlier scam cases of bogus MTR (Shenzhen) staff, the Civil Affairs Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality (Bureau) has recently received a number of enquiries from Hong Kong citizens about having received phone calls from the Bureau. The callers claimed that the Bureau had launched a charitable fundraising event and invited members of the public to participate. The calling number was the Bureau’s external enquiry hotline 0755-2583 2106. In reality, the Bureau will never make calls to Hong Kong, and the so-called charitable event was merely a pretext that scammers used to obtain personal information and defraud people of money.

Our Advice

  • Recently, be extra vigilant against cross-border phone calls;

  • Stay alert if you receive phone calls purportedly made by the Bureau. Do not hastily believe the callers’ identities;

  • Do not disclose personal information, including identity card numbers and bank account details;

  • Even if strangers who send you messages are able to tell your personal information, it does not necessarily mean that they are genuine law enforcement officers. Scammers can obtain the personal information of the public by unlawful means;

  • If you suspect that you have fallen prey to a scam, please call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” for enquiries.
