2023-12-05

Defrauding Tricks

Recently, members of the public have received scam calls with caller IDs 2551 1808, 8446 2110, 8339 1185, 8285 0110 and 2668 2331, purporting to be made from law enforcement officers of police stations in the Mainland (Donghu Police Station: 2551 1808, Huanggang Port Police Station: 8446 2110, 8339 1185, Lianhua Police Station: 8285 0110 and Zhaoshang Police Station: 2668 2331). The callers claimed that the recipients had violated Mainland laws because their lost Exit-Entry Permits had been misused for SIM card registration. The recipients were asked to provide their personal information for case investigation, or they would be prohibited from leaving Hong Kong.

The Police calls on the public to be mindful of scammers who will change caller IDs with caller ID spoofing technology called VoIP to call members of the public, purporting to be calls from Mainland law enforcement agencies.

Our Advice

  • Do not believe unknown callers or disclose your personal information, bank account number and password to them;

  • Even if strangers are able to tell your personal information or send you legal documents with your photos, it does not necessarily mean that they are genuine law enforcement officers. Scammers can obtain the personal information of the public by unlawful means;

  • Stay alert if anyone claim themselves as officers of law enforcement or government agencies. You should contact corresponding agencies to verify their identities;

  • Remind your relatives and friends to stay vigilant against deception;
