Beware of Phishing SMS Messages Purportedly from Octopus

Defrauding Tricks

Recently, scammers have sent fraudulent phishing SMS messages to members of the public, purporting to be from Octopus Cards Limited (Octopus), claiming that their Octopus Wallets have won prizes. The recipients were lured into clicking on the unknown hyperlink embedded and disclosing their personal information, mobile phone numbers and verification codes. 


Our Advice

Octopus has issued a clarification notice on its website:


Octopus will never ask customers to validate their personal and/or account related information by SMS or through any hyperlinks embedded in such messages. If you have any concerns or have provided personal information on the aforementioned website, please contact Octopus at 2266 2222.
  • Do not log on to any websites or download any attachments by clicking on hyperlinks embedded in suspicious SMS emails, messages or web pages;

  • Do not input your personal information, mobile phone numbers and verification codes into unknown apps or websites;

  • Enter the suspicious URL on “Scameter” for security check in addition to seeking verification from official organisations;

  • Remind your relatives and friends to stay vigilant against deception;

  • If in doubt, please call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” for enquiries.
