Defrauding Tricks

Recently, the Police have received public enquiries about a fraudulent SMS message purportedly issued by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) claiming that assistance could be offered for the application of Anti-epidemic Fund and enticing the recipients into clicking on an unknown embedded link. By clicking on the link, the recipients are directed to a fake SWD website where they are asked to input such information as their names, ID numbers and whereabouts.

Our Advice

  • Do not log on to any unknown websites with the hyperlinks provided in SMS messages;

  • Do not input any personal particulars, credit card data or security code information into unknown applications or websites;
