Remind You Again: Beware of Scammers Impersonating Staff of Department of Health

Recently, members of the public have received WhatsApp messages from scammers impersonating staff of the Centre for Health Protection. They claimed that the recipients have been identified as suspected close contacts from their travel codes screened by big data, and asked the recipients to add them on WhatsApp for verification.

Our Advice

• Do not click on the links embedded in suspicious SMS messages or provide any sensitive personal information such as bank account details without verifying the sender’s identity;
• The Department of Health will provide relevant information to verify the identity of both parties if they need to contact you;
• The Department of Health will not ask you for any sensitive personal information such as bank account details and PIN codes;
• Remind your relatives and friends to stay alert against deception;
• If in doubt, please call the “Anti-Scam Helpline 18222” for advice.
