Beware of phone or mail scammers claimed to be DH staff

Defrauding Tricks

The Department of Health (DH) has noticed recently that quite a number of members of public got phone or mail scams relating to COVID-19 controlled items or other mail items. Some scammers have even attempted to defraud the public by claiming themselves to be DH staff with real DH enquiry hotlines and office addresses but with a fake identity. After verification, such calls and mails were not made or sent by our staff.

 Our Advice

  • If you receive unknown calls with the prefix “+852” which appears to be from a local number, you should be alert to possible telephone deceptions.

  • Members of the public should stay alert to suspicious calls or mails. Do not follow any instructions of suspicious callers or senders.

  • If in doubt, call the Anti-Scam Helpline 18222 for enquiries or report to the police.
