Beware of Fake Diamond Fraud

Recently, several fake diamond fraud cases targeting watch and jewellery shops were reported. Fraudsters sold diamond jewellery with certificates of authenticity to the shops and requested cash payment. Afterwards, the shops submitted the diamond jewellery for authentication and discovered that both the diamonds and certificates were forged.
Preventive Measures
  • Stay alert when purchasing second-hand diamond jewellery and verify its authenticity in a discreet manner;
  • Pay extra attention when encountering sellers causing disturbance or distraction, or those demanding cash payment;
  • In case of doubt, the diamond jewellery should be submitted to laboratories for authentication before making any payment; and
